A Whole Month

I can't believe it's been a whole month since we last blogged!! It's probably because we've been so busy with our new midweek hours and menu, which by the way have been going down a real treat. Lovely big open sandwiches, to put together just how you like seem to be doing the trick. We've also been going through a rather larger amount of cake and scones than previously so that's been keeping us busy too. Oh and we've also been trying to (finally) get our Branding and Sign sorted, which we are pleased to say is coming along splendidly. So much to do so little time! I wished for a 48 hr day last week but never got it! Hopefully we'll catch up with ourselves soon, but with winter very fast approaching, despite a a final weekend of summer last week, we thought we'd add a some hot food to the lunch menu, nothing complicated just good old harty soups and stews, so look out for those on a specials board starting next week! I think that's enough for now, we'll try and follow up pictures x

Mrs Mcks Pudding Club goes EAST

Tuesday 30 August 2011

Early Mornings, Lazy Afternoons....(for you not us)

So, in the absence of pudding club we've been busy getting our new mid week menu together....we're starting breakfast and lunches next week Tuesday...yes I said Tuesday we now only have one day a week away from all you lovely people......this tea room lark is addictive!!!

We decided that it wasn't nutritionally fair to only feed you cake, so we've added sandwiches and quiches and soup to the menu, you can either just come in for lunch or come in for a Lazy Afternoon Tea with finger sandwiches, savoury bites and of course cake, scones and tea.
We're doing a trial run taster this Sunday the 4th, £5 per head for a delicious selection of savoury and sweet treats, and your choice of tea or our special Ice - T!!!!
I don't think you wanna miss this.

As for breakfast we'll have all our usual weekend favourites of Pancakes, Vanilla French Toast, and Poached Eggs, but we're adding few bits to get you through the week, Granola with Fruit and Yogurt and Porridge with delicious toppings to name a couple....oh and we'll be open a little earlier for those of you that don't do worms, 9 am to be precise.

Cant wait to see you all there x x

A Taste of Pudding Club

One of our lovely customers took this picture of pudding club last week. Its a pretty true representation of the delicious tropical theme we had going on last week...

Mrs Mck's Pudding Club

I know we've been a little slack when it comes to blogging these past few weeks but i promise in due time we will have some new wonderful recipes up courtesy of Mrs Mck... We're thinking cherry cheesecake and maybe steamed pineapple upside down pudding?? What do you reckon?
We have had a rather exciting week this week it all kicked off with a life changing experience when we both went to see Prince at Hop Farm festival. I mean dancing in a field with Prince with the purple sunset what a way to spend a Sunday. So we're sorry we were closed for the day but it was truly a necessary experience.
But we're back and hard at work right now we're prepping for this weeks Pudding Club... Mrs Mck won't actually be in attendance this week as MPHO has a gig...
We've still got an exciting range of delectable delights to indulge in though....

On The Menu This Week (Thursday 6th)

Banoffee Pie
Chocolate and Custard Tarts
Strawberry Rice Pudding (with a brandy flavoured kick)
Peach Fool

I hope that excites you as much as it excites me!

Mrs Mck's Pudding Club Vol. 1 (Pictures)

We got a couple good photos but we were so busy being the best hostesses we know how to be to get many of the puddings... If anyone out there got some of the finished products we would love to see them?
here's a link to the facebook photo album

Playing @ RELAY

Right now it is all about Frank Ocean he's brilliant. His voice makes me and Mrs Mck all melty inside. There's a really brilliant article about him on the complex magazine website but to sum it up... He was signed to a major record label and they dropped him (as they do) but instead of staying quiet and disappearing he got on with life and released his album as a free mixtape to download! There's a lot more to his story than that so the article is definitely worth a read.
Most importantly his album is so strong, one of the few recent albums that I'm more than happy to listen to beginning to end over and over. It is quickly becoming the album that we play at least once a day on the Relay Ipod. More than anything I love the content of his songs his lyrics actually give me butterflies. Ridiculous I know but true. I think Mrs Mck would agree that this album is gonna get rather rinsed out at Relay over the summer. What d'ya reckon??

Pudding D.I.Y

To accompany our weekly pudding club we will be posting a Pudding Club recipe every week... So we're kicking off with White Chocolate & Raspberry Bread and Butter Pudding...
You don't need any special cooking skills or anything just nice simple delicious puddings to make at home. Maybe for a dinner party? (We're all in favour of dinner parties, I think we should all start having them.)
If you're not a dab hand in the kitchen don't worry Mrs Mck taught me how to make this the other day and I'm a bit of a pudding novice , but it went down a treat with our guests . I have a feeling it could've been a favourite at Pudding Club last night...

Raspberry and White Chocolate Bread & Butter Pudding
~
Serves 6-8
Ingredients: 8 thick slices of day old crusty white bread, slightly salted butter (enough to butter the bread), punnet of raspberries, 150g white chocolate, 200ml double cream, 100ml milk, 200g caster sugar, 150g cream cheese, 2 eggs, 2 egg yolks, tbsp vanilla essence.
~
First, pre heat oven to 180°. Liberally butter both sides of each slice of bread. Arrange 4 slices of bread on the bottom of a buttered oven dish (cut or tear the bread to fit). Then evenly scatter half the raspberries and chocolate chunks over the bread. Arrange another layer of bread making sure they overlap in places. Scatter some more raspberries and chocolate on top.
In a mixing bowl beat 2 eggs, 2 egg yolks and sugar together till pale, add cream cheese and beat till smooth.
In a small saucepan bring cream, milk and vanilla essence to the boil then add this mixture to the mixing bowl and mix well.
Pour over the bread ensuring it gets into all the spaces and down the sides of the oven dish. Sprinkle a few raspberries and white chocolate over the top to decorate. Put in the middle of the pre-heated oven for about half an hour. It should be lightly golden and solid but not too dry when ready.

Serve warm with fresh cream and enjoy!
Let us know how the cooking goes...
Happy cooking

Mrs Mck's Pudding Club Vol. 1

We launched Mrs Mck's Pudding Club down at Relay last night and it was rather delightful. Fun was had and pudding was enjoyed!
At the end of a wonderful night filled with music, brought to us by the fabulous Annonymos and Rowdy Superst*r (who btw smashed it!) we handed out a mixtape full of stuff we dance around to at Relay when we're slaving over the oven making you all delicious puddings. it's got tunes on it that get us through the hard times, like when our Vicky Sponge gets super angry with us and decides to be all droopy and sad. And tunes that we put on when we're soldiering through a mountain of dishes for example, this morning when I spent approximately 3 hours cleaning up after last night's antics (a KP will be hired for next weeks pudding club!). There's also a bunch of stuff on there that just makes us real real happy...
Here's the track listing from Mrs Mck's Pudding Club Vol. 1.....

Animal - Miike Snow - This one gets us jumping round the shop like crazy ladies.
Faster - Janelle Monae - Janelle got us through the bitter cold of winter.
The World Is Yours - NAS - What a classic!
Had it Harder - Lail Arad - Lail is a good friend of ours we hope to have her down to do a set at the Pudding Club soon. And we love this song about our city!
Humanity (Love the way it should be) - John Legend - If you haven't heard the Wake Up album by the Roots and John Legend you really should.
The Marrying Kind - Prince - Massive Prince fans in the land of Relay... If you don't like Prince... Don't tell us!
We All Try - Frank Ocean - Frank Ocean is our favourite at the moment. In fact i'm gonna do a post dedicated to him later...
Big Ole Words (Damn) - Cee - Lo

I really hope you enjoy the mix and maybe you've found something new to get to know? We're gonna be keeping our ears to the ground finding stuff for Vol. 2 ... Let us know how you like it...

Lots and lots of Hip-hop... Ipod shuffle has been on a bit of a hip-hop tip recently...

This pic was taken by the lovely Olmo Cassibba when he and Rahel came to visit us. Olmo posted some pics he took of Relay on his blog HERE...

Back once again...

Sorry we've been out of blogging land for so long there's no good excuse other than we've been ridiculously busy... I've had exams and silly amounts of reading to get done and Relay has been getting steadily busier... Most nights we get home and just crash out... A couple of times in the last few weeks we've managed to drag ourselves out and when we did it was wonderful. We had the pleasure of seeing a number of extremely talented friends at the launch of Flock. And box Open quickly became our new favourite band after we saw them at the Servant Jazz Quarters in Dalston. In fact we're hoping to have them do a special performance at our Pudding Club very soon...
Speaking of Pudding Clubs... We will be launching the Pudding Club on June 16th with a very special guest to be announced soon. So keep checking back for info....
Here's some pics of the last few weeks and what we've been up to.

Ciao for now...

This Weekend @ RELAY

Our first weekend back after two weeks and we were bombarded! we were certainly not expecting to have such a good weekend. So it came as a surprise when we were greeted on Saturday morning by our regulars and lots of new faces so we're happy ladies! Plus we got to try out our newest delights on the unassuming public....

These babies are ridiculous... We started off calling them cake pops, then they became cake balls but try saying that without turning pink and giggling so we finally settled on Cake BonBons. They are delicious and naughty and delightful and wonderful and really really dangerous. Its like a truffle married a cake and voila!

We got our hands on some beautiful silver plated coffee percolators from the wonderful new shop in the market, Brixi, you can find some lovely bits in there very nicely hand picked bits of furniture and decorations.

We also introduced our new home made Ice T to the world. Here is the Raspberry, vanilla and rose, we also have a Green tea with lemon and ginger both made with Taylor's of Harrogate teas and they both taste delicious. Really refreshing and I reckon they'll be quite a hit this summer if the weather continues like this...

Here's hoping...

Market Birthdays

We had the pleasure of plying some of our dear market traders with birthday cake this past few weeks.... The wonderful Margot had her bday and Mrs. Mck. supplied an obscenely ridiculous triple layered chocolate cake.

Bidet was Nilesh's joke not ours!

and we also had Binki's Bday we also did a lovely chocolate cake not quite as obscene but still pretty damn gorgeous... We were told it disappeared in a matter of moments...

I feel like doing a food dance whilst humming a little food song right now....

Back from a break

We're back. We took a small break in March to get our heads together after an unfortunate event, some very dear friends of our lost their daughter in a tragic accident and it hit us all pretty hard. We needed the time off to be with the family and our close friends. So as you can imagine its been a hard few weeks all round. But we're so glad to be back at the shop. We missed it so much whilst we were away, in fact we were a little afraid we'd come back and all our customers would have abandoned us. But to the contrary we were welcomed with a lovely note from one of our regulars and then we received a whole box of lovely cupcakes. We feel very loved, its always nice to know that you're missed when you're not around.

We made these colourful treats in memory of the most colourful girl...

Our first bit of printed press...

We got a mention and a little photo in the Families magazine last month. Here's a link to the website: Families...

Sunday 13 March 2011

We've been busy since I last blogged... I've had assignments to get done which I still haven't finished and stress is rising but we've also been busy at the shop too. We finally finished building our collapsable less wobbly more pretty tables, I think when we decided we'd make our own tables we didn't really consider how difficult it is to make tables there's always one wobble that you can't work out why its still bloody wobbling! We'll get the eventually we'll have lovely sturdy tables! Until then they will just have to look pretty to counter the slight jiggling!
We also had a chance to visit our favourite vintage thrift shop in Dulwich, we managed to pick up a few lovely things like an antique copy of the brothers Grimm fairy tales... (pictures soon) And we took an evening off and went to see Mr. Mck raging the drums at Tinie Tempah's London date. When we sneaked back stage we found this...

I think we can safely say Tinie has good taste in tea. We also delivered him some of Mrs. Mck's cupcakes which we hope he enjoyed...

So here's some pics of our week looking at them makes me love our little shop even more...

Green tea and peach mimosas in yellow china?! yes please!

This picture resembles a much appreciated success! Our oven was freaking out for a couple of weeks and was brutally attacking our victoria sponge! (we tried everything to figure out what happened we eventually came to the conclusion that it could only be sabotage!) but this week all was well and good again! Vicky sponge is happy and delicious.

This is what we resorted to when we realised we don't have bowls? granola and berries for breakfast is fantastic even out of a margarine tub!

And here's our goodbye for today! xx

What we're reading...

What we're reading hasn't gotten much more exciting... I'm researching for an essay with a title to make the best of us want to bury our heads in the sand... So my reading this weeks has gotten dark and depressing. One book entitled A Brief History of Neoliberalism brought tears to my eyes in the first chapter but in the nature of keeping things a little light I've picked up como agua para chocolate so that should put a happy spin on my week...
Speaking of chocolate Mrs Mck's chocolate cupcakes are calling me...
